Photo David M. Bittenbinder, MD

Dr. Bittenbinder was born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and was raised in Temple, Texas. He attended the University of Texas in Austin where he earned a BS in Biochemistry with a minor focus in Russian history. He then proceeded to medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio where he obtained his medical degree in 2013. After completion of his medical degree, he matched to the general surgery program in Memphis, Tennessee where he completed 5 years of residency and earned his general surgery residency certificate. He was nominated to be the administrative chief at that program and earned the chief teaching award there his final year. Dr. Bittenbinder began his Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at UT Health San Antonio in August 2018. He is also a Specialist within the Division of Trauma & Emergency Surgery.

Dr. Braverman was born and raised in West Bloomfield, MI. In 2009, he graduated with a BS in Chemistry from the Lyman Briggs School at Michigan State University. While studying at Michigan State, he conducted research into metal organic polymer synthesis and co-authored several peer reviewed manuscripts. After earning his DO degree from Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University in 2013, he began his general surgery residency at Christiana Care Health System in Newark, DE. During residency, he conducted research in Geriatric Trauma and Trauma Systems, and held multiple leadership positions, including serving as Administrative Chief Resident. Dr. Braverman has been active in medical student and resident education, and has received multiple awards for excellence in teaching. He began his Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at UT Health San Antonio in August of 2018, where he also serves as a Specialist within the Division of Trauma & Emergency Surgery.

Dr. Edmundson is a 5th generation Texan - born in San Antonio, Texas and then raised in Houston. He attended Haverford College where he earned a BA in Philosophy with honors as well as a Minor in Latin after living abroad in Rome. Dr. Edmundson then returned to Houston as a faculty member of the English and Science Departments of St. Thomas High School where he taught 9th and 10th grade English, Physics and Chemistry. After a brief career as a high school teacher, Dr. Edmundson attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School where he served as a member of the Parkland Memorial Hospital Ethics committee throughout his medical training. After graduating in 2013, Dr. Edmundson went on to a Residency in General Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. While at Baylor, Dr. Edmundson continued his interest in biomedical ethics as a resident representative on the BUMC Institutional Ethics Committee. He also received numerous awards including Top ABSITE Score, Raleigh Ross Scholar, the David B McReynold Servant's Heart Award as well as the Chief Resident of the Year as elected by the residents. After graduating from residency in 2018, Dr. Edmundson began his Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at UT Health San Antonio where he also serves as a Specialist within the Division of Trauma & Emergency Surgery.

Dr. Pokorny was born in Lemoore, California. As the son of a Naval aviator, he spent his early life moving all around the country. He attended the University of Florida where he earned a degree in Health Science Education while playing offensive line for the Gator football team. In 2007, he was commissioned into the United States Navy as an Ensign through the Health Professions Scholarship Program. Dr. Pokorny completed his medical school training at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine at their Bradenton, Florida campus. Upon graduating from medical school, he reported to the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Portsmouth, Virginia for residency training. After completing his residency in General Surgery in 2016, Dr. Pokorny immediately deployed to the Arabian Gulf onboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. While deployed, he served as the sole surgical support to Carrier Strike Group Ten. Upon returning, he transitioned back to full time training and began his Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at UT Health San Antonio where he also serves as adjunct clinical faculty in the Division of Trauma & Emergency Surgery. Dr. Pokorny is also a teaching fellow in surgery and on track to become an assistant professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland.
