Pursuit of MD with Distinction in Research; Co-author of collaborative scientific paper on 'Nanoparticle Tacrolimus Inhalation in Rat Lung Transplant Model' which was presented at 2008 Chest Conference in Philadelphia, PA. Summer Medical Research Program, concentrated research over 8-week period UTHSCSA Student Research Day poster presentation on 'Development of a Single Lung Allograft Rat Transplant Model at UTSHCSA'. Acquired and proficient in performance of rodent endotracheal intubation, microsurgical rodent lung procurement, allograft transplantation, necropsy and nanoparticle pharmacotherapy administration. Performed over 130 consecutive left lung allogenic rat transplantation in both inbred and outbred rats using external non-suture cuff anastomosis technique.

Co-authored and researched scientific paper regarding beta-Catenin, 'Beta catenin mutations are not sufficient to activate Wnt signaling in prostate cells,' with Georgetown University Research Instructor (Oncology and Medicine). Acquired extensive laboratory training for western blotting, spectrophotometer analysis, tissue culture, phosphorescence, cell splitting, and bacterial transformations and transfections. Performed experiments (36) using aseptic laboratory technique. Collected data weekly for research.

Dr. Hsiung grew up in Potomac, Maryland and then moved to Austin, Texas to complete her undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at Austin with a Plan II, Honors Liberal Arts, degree. Upon graduating, she worked as a medical assistant in the Internal Medicine Department at the Austin Diagnostic Clinic in Austin, Texas for two years before earning her doctorate degree with distinction in research from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, during which time she also completed a two-year non-profit leadership and public service training program in Southern California She is interested in cardiothoracic and transplant surgery. She enjoys traveling and photography; playing volleyball and biking; reading mystery novels and biographies; and spending time with friends and family.
