General Surgery Resident
Shady Abdel-Rehim was born in Cairo, Egypt. He has a diverse cultural background growing-up in several countries in the Middle East and Europe. Shady is both Egyptian and Danish National. He graduated from Ain Shams School of Medicine Cairo, Egypt in 2006. He then went to the United Kingdom for postgraduate training. After completing a year of internship, Shady joined basic Plastic Surgery training program at the renowned Queens Medical Centre (Nottingham University). In 2010, he gained his Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons certification (MRCS) after completing his basic surgical training in Plastic Surgery. Shady then continued with his higher surgical training as a Plastic Surgery registrar at the Pan-Scottish training rotation in Scotland. Shady has a great interest in clinical research; he earned his Masters degree from the University of Edinburgh followed by a two-year research fellowship at the University of Michigan before he finally joined the Trauma research team here at UTHSCSA. He has published several papers and book chapters and presented at various scientific fora. In addition to his clinical and research work, Shady is a leading advocate of plastic surgery trainees’ education and continued professional development. He is twice-elected General Secretary of the prestigious International Confederation of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons Trainees Association (IPRAS-TA) between 2012-2014. In his free time Shady enjoys traveling and spending time on the beach.
