research activity of twelve pediatric surgeons. Responsible for enrolling
subjects, gathering and analyzing data, and writing articles and abstracts under
supervision of faculty members. Observed in clinical service with general
surgery residents. Project highlights include: Prospective pilot study to

anorectal malformation or other complex perineal anomalies; a multicentric
prospective study to determine risk factors for patients with necrotizing
enterocolitis to progress to perforation or necrosis requiring surgical
intervention; assessing the bilateral cerebral oxygenation when one cerebral
hemisphere is potentially compromised and correlate the oxygen saturation to
short and long term neurodevelopmental outcomes in neonates with congenital
diaphragmatic hernia. Numerous additional publications currently being prepared
for submission.

Biosketch: Dr. Hassan graduated from Baghdad College of Medicine in 2006. Living in Baghdad during the height of the war was very dangerous and caused Dr. Hassan many hardships, but he persevered and had a very successful academic career there. Due to safety concerns, Dr. Hassan was forced to relocate to Amman, Jordan, where he finished his internship at Jordan University Hospital. He then got the opportunity to come to Texas to participate in an elective course at Texas Heart Institute and there he became increasingly interested in surgery. Most recently, Dr. Hassan spent 2 years at Texas Children's Hospital as the Pokorney Clinical Research Post Doctoral Fellow of the Division of Pediatric Surgery, Michael E. Debakey Department of Surgery, Baylor College of Medicine. There he has written and published numerous studies that have been presented at local, national and international meetings. His interest now lies in pursuing a career in Pediatric Trauma Surgery. He is an avid basketball player, billiard enthusiast, and new fan of everything 'Texan', including horseback riding. He also enjoys writing Arabic poetry.
