Research:
UTHSCSA, Department of Psychiatry, Professor Jair C. Soares, MD. 2004. "Anatomical Examination of the Sub-genual Prefrontal Cortex in Adult Bipolar Patients." Using functional MRI, we concluded that there is no difference in the volume of the sub-genual prefrontal cortex between bipolar patients to healthy adults. In my absence, my poster was presented at the Society of Biological Psychiatry's 60th Annual Scientific Convention in 2005.
UT Austin, Department of Chemistry. Professor Joseph J. Lagowski, PhD. 2003. We wanted to determine if a computer simulation program would provide a convenient and beneficial supplemental study aid for students enrolled in chemistry laboratory classes. I created a computer simulation program of common chemical reactions using video footage that the students could access online, instead of having to gain access to the laboratory for study. The research was ongoing when I left UT to begin medical school.
UT Austin, Department of Chemistry. Donna C. Lyon, PhD. 2001-03. A group of 15 students, including myself, facilitated collaborative teaching sessions for chemistry students. The students attended sessions weekly, where they were divided into groups of four and expected to work through problem sets with each other. We found that students who participated in this exercise of peer teaching outperformed other students with statistical significance.
