The Division of Emergency Medicine provides care to patients and their families from the newborn population to the aged. All the physicians are board certified.

The division is also responsible for midlevel providers, i.e., physician assistants or nurse practitioners who provide clinical care to our patient population. The Emergency Center area has been declared an underserved area because of our high percentage of indigent patients. As a consequence, midlevel providers can provide care and also treat and prescribe for patients at a level consistent with physician-guided midlevels in rural health care areas. This is an advantage to the Emergency Center; we can use these individuals to help expedite our patient care.

photo Our teaching responsibilities continue to serve medical students, physician assistant students, and residents. Military Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants have begun to rotate through the Emergency Center. This helps the military, and it has helped our program continue to treat the number of patients who we see in our area.
