The University of Texas Health Science Center - San Antonio (UTHSCSA) Division of Emergency Medicine is seeking applications for the position of Chief of Emergency Medicine. UTHSCSA is in the process of developing an emergency medicine residency program for year 2011. The program will be based at University Hospital, a 400 bed tertiary care hospital with a Level 1 Trauma Center. The 55 bed Emergency Center at University Hospital currently provides care for over 65,000 patient visits per year. UTHSCSA is constructing a new state-of-the-art research and clinical facility (opening in 2009) and University Hospital will open a new Emergency Center in 2012. The Division of Emergency Medicine is seeking a leader in academic emergency medicine with an interest in building a department and developing a residency program. The successful candidate will join a faculty of 15 emergency physicians. An ideal candidate would be an innovative academic physician at the professor or associate professor level with a proven record of clinical, research and educational program oversight. Training Program for Research Scientists in Trauma

The University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, now offers an interdepartmental Training Program in Injury, Ischemia and Inflammation: A Translational Approach to Trauma Treatment for post doctoral fellows. Twenty three faculty from seven departments (Surgery, Csllular and Structural Biology, Physiology, Biostatistics and Engineering, Biochemistry, Endodontics, Pathology) are trainers on this NIH training grant.
The Research Program provides stipends and training for postdoctoral fellows interested in basic and translational research that holds promise for practical application for Surgery and Trauma. Trainees participate in the Masters in Clinical Investigation or PhD in Surgery/Physiology and are given an opportunity to take 24 clinical night calls per year.

Faculty Associates / Physician Assistant
The Division of General Surgery at University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is recruiting for a full-time certified physician assistant with excellent clinical skills to provide patient care to general surgery patients primarily in the inpatient setting under the supervision of a licensed general surgeon. Responsibilities of this faculty associate position include the performance of complex but standardized tasks requiring considerable experience and training, which does not constitute the practice of medicine, and would otherwise be performed by a physician.
Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies or its equivalent, and certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Surgical experience as a first assistant is preferred.

A full-time Assistant Professor/Research is offered at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio in the Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular. The primary responsibility will be to support the research goals of the division including training and supervision of postdoctoral fellows, medical students, graduate students and volunteers, assay development and assistance with manuscript and grant writing. Our lab studies the influence of bone marrow-derived cells on angiogenesis and muscle regeneration after injury. Candidates with research expertise in molecular biology, flow cytometry, immunology and/or stem cell biology are preferred.
