Dr. Stewart graduated from medical school and completed his surgical residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He completed a 2 year Trauma and Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. He became the Director of Trauma at University Hospital in 1993. Dr. Stewart has been the Chairperson of the Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council for Trauma since 1996. He received the Faculty Member of the Year Award from The University Health System in 1999. That same year he was awarded the Bronze Quill for his writings on the injury prevention program Shattered Dreams/D.E.A.D. (Drinking and Driving End All Dreams). In May 2000, Governor George W. Bush appointed him to the Texas Emergency Medical Services and Trauma Advisory Council. He has been the chair of the South Texas Chapter of the ACS Committee on Trauma and the Region VI Chief of the Committee on Trauma and currently serves on the ACS Committee on Trauma. He received the UTHSCSA Presidential Award for Clinical Excellence and has received multiple medical student and resident teaching awards. Dr. Stewart's research interests lie in the areas of injury epidemiology, clinical trauma care, and health care policy. He is the Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and holds the Jocelyn and Joe Straus Endowed Chair for Trauma Research. He is the Recorder for the Southwestern Surgical Congress and the Secretary of the Texas Surgical Society.

Distinguished Teaching Professor
Trauma and Emergency Surgery

Dr. Dent is a graduate of Duke University and the University of South Florida College of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency and a research fellowship in surgical nutrition at the University of Tennessee at Memphis. His clinical and research interests include surgical education, head trauma, surgical nutrition, surgical infection, and transfusion medicine. Dr. Dent has won numerous awards for teaching medical students and residents and in 2010, he was inducted into the UTHSCSA Academy of Master Teachers. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Association of Program Directors in Surgery, the Editorial Board of the Journal of Surgical Radiology, and is a reviewer for numerous other journals.

Photo Maureen Sheehan, MD, Associate Program Director
Assistant Professor, Vascular Surgery

Dr. Sheehan graduated from medical school in 1998, and completed her general surgery residency at Loyola University Medical Center in 2003. She then completed a 2 year fellowship in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at University of Pittsburgh in 2005. Since becoming a faculty member at UTHSCSA, she has completed her Masters of Science in Clinical Investigation. She currently serves on several national committees in vascular surgery, including the Diversity in Vascular Surgery committee, whose goal it is to increase diversification of physicians in the field as well as increase cultural awareness. Her current clinical and research interests include endovascular treatment of peripheral arterial disease, critical limb ischemia, carotid disease, and venous disease.

Photo Alicia J. Logue, MD, Associate Program Director
Assistant Professor of Surgery, General and Laparoendoscopic Surgery

Dr. Logue attended undergraduate at Auburn University where she earned a B.S. in Chemistry. She attended The University of South Alabama for medical school and then completed residency in general surgery at The University of Tennessee in Memphis. Dr. Logue finished a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at The University of Texas in San Antonio and transitioned to faculty within the division of General and Laparoendoscopic Surgery.

Dr. Logue currently is an assistant professor and was appointed to associate program director at the University. She has a joint appointment at the Audie L. Murphy Veteran's Hospital where she serves as the Chief of General Surgical Services. Her clinical interests include laparoscopic colon, biliary, foregut, and hernia surgery as well as diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. She also enjoys resident education and assisting them in exam preparation.
