The Employee of the Month award was created to recognize employees for the times that they contribute that 'extra something' on their job. The winners of this award will receive a framed certificate and a $100 Simon Gift Card. Each September, the past 12 monthly winners will be eligible to win a 5 night/4 day Caribbean Cruise for two. Employees must have been employed in the department of surgery for 1 year to be eligible for nomination.

Take 10 minutes out of your day and send in a nomination form to modrzynski@uthscsa.edu. Please be as detailed as you can in the nomination form about the individual you are nominating. This is a great opportunity for your co-workers to be recognized for their outstanding service. All Employee of the Month winners are eligible to become the Employee of the Year!

Surgery's Employee of the Month program is sponsored and funded by the J. Bradley Aust Surgical Society.

October 2009 Employee of the Month
Janis R. Strong, Academic Coordinator, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery

Photo Janis serves as the assistant to the Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery and as Academic Coordinator for the Plastic Surgery Residency Program. She is the consummate professional with an outstanding work ethic. Janis has worked in the Department of Surgery, with one short break in service, for over 13 years. She has a wealth of knowledge regarding departmental and University policy and procedures and provides excellent administrative support to her office. Her organizational skills are exceptional and her cheerful demeanor is a true asset to our Department.

The Division of Plastic Surgery is small, but the workload is very busy and intense on a daily basis. Janis' ability to juggle her faculty's clinical workload, administrative time, and the needs of the residency program is a testament to her multi-tasking skills. She is one of the most proactive administrative support staff in the Department.

Although Janis' title is Academic Coordinator, she does much more than administer the residency program in the Division of Plastic Surgery. She provides outstanding administrative support to the faculty in her division and takes immense pride in her work. We are fortunate to have her as part of Surgery's team.

Janis has been presented with an 'Employee of the Month' framed certificate, and a $100 Gift Card. On behalf of the J. Bradley Aust Surgical Society, Department of Surgery Executive Committee, administration, faculty, staff, and the EOM Selection Committee, we congratulate Janis for her outstanding support and service to the department.
