Department Employee of the Month Program
Click here to download/open Nomination Form
The Employee of the Month award was created to recognize employees for the times that they contribute that 'extra something' on their job. The winners of this award will receive a framed certificate and a $300 check. Employees must have been employed in the department of surgery for 1 year to be eligible for nomination.
Take 10 minutes out of your day and send in a nomination form to davisv@uthscsa.edu. Please be as detailed as you can in the nomination form about the individual you are nominating. This is a great opportunity for your co-workers to be recognized for their outstanding service.
Surgery's Employee of the Month program is sponsored and funded by the J. Bradley Aust Surgical Society.
Blanca Montoya - Benefit & Surgery Coordinator, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
"Blanca Montoya serves as the Benefit Coordinator for Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, and also as the Surgery Coordinator for the division. She schedules complex cases in the ORs of UHS, Christus Santa Rosa, MARC, and Baptist Hospital, and obtains authorizations for the cases so as to ensure we are reimbursed appropriately. She also schedules anesthesia for these procedures and obtains the cost estimates for those patients paying cash or who still owe deductibles.
"Blanca is fully cross-trained as front desk and does not hesitate to register, check-in, schedule, and discharge patients. She has helped in clinic by taking patient vital signs and putting them into the exam rooms, she chaperones and assists the doctor, and she has met with patients to discuss their financial obligations and to help explain their surgeries to them. Blanca does this voluntarily because she has a desire to see the clinic flow run smoothly and to serve the patients. I believe Blanca Montoya is a worthy candidate for selection of Employee of the Month."
Blanca has been presented with an 'Employee of the Month' framed certificate, and a $300 Gift Card. On behalf of the J. Bradley Aust Society, the Department of Surgery Executive Committee, administration, faculty, staff, and the EOM Selection Committee, we congratulate her for her outstanding support and service to the department.
Zaheer Sarwar - Research Assistant - Senior, Vascular Research
"Zaheer has managed animal experiments in my research laboratory from several years. He is technically gifted and can perform complex operations and experiments. He has mastered our mouse model of muscle injury and has the most reproducible technique. Zaheer has trained multiple surgery residents, graduate students and postdocs on mouse studies, research techniques and lab management skills. Zaheer has an excellent knowledge of research and medicine. He is organized and can design complex experiments and develop new techniques. He is patient, thorough and an excellent teacher.
"Zaheer is always helpful, cheerful and is a very popular member of my lab. Students and trainees routinely go to him for advice and training. Zaheer works hard, is organized and keeps us all on track. He is adept at navigating both UTHSCSA and the VA systems to accomplish what we need for the lab to function.
"Zaheer is most deserving of this award. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can provide further information."
