Surgical Weight Loss
Wayne H. Schwesinger, MD, Director
The surgeons of the UT Medicine Center for Medical and Surgical
Weight Loss are nationally recognized and fellowship-trained,
specializing in both advanced and basic laparoendoscopic (minimally
invasive) procedures.
Extensive experience in these procedures has allowed our team to develop new techniques for laparoendoscopic weight-loss surgery, including laparoendoscopic gastric bypass and laparoendoscopic band procedures. More importantly, our surgeons are able to deliver outcomes which exceed national averages of weight-management success due to a commitment to surgical expertise, compassionate care, and exemplary pre- and post-surgery consultative services.
Our mission:
UT Medicine Medical and Surgical Weight Loss Center will work to improve the quality of life of individuals who suffer from morbid obesity, and to prevent or control the complications associated with this disorder. We will use a comprehensive, multidisciplinary program to evaluate, support, educate and treat morbidly obese patients and provide a variety of state-of-the-art bariatric surgical procedures for carefully selected candidates.
Our goals:
- To provide state-of-the art, minimally invasive surgical options for all our patients.
- To continue to raise the standard of care in one of the nation's 10 largest cities.
- To establish weight-loss surgery as a true specialty which requires specialized training and a multi-disciplinary team approach.
- To serve as a "beacon of hope" for all patients by offering a "no exclusion" policy.
- To provide superior outcomes along with compassionate and caring personal attention to our patients while still pursuing our practice goals.
