Office of the Vice President for Research:
NIH Bridge Funding Program
The VPR NIH Bridge Funding Program is intended to provide temporary
support to investigators whose competitive renewal applications were not
successful. Up to $30,000 will be provided by the Office of the Vice
President for Research for six month periods; departments/schools and,
in some cases, centers, are required to match the VPR share. A complete

NEW NIH Pathway to Independence Award Program
NIH released information about the Pathway to Independence Program on
January 27, 2006. This program is a combined mentored and non-mentored
program for post-doctoral fellows (see eligibility criteria below). It
represents a new way to support early career scientific investigators
from their post-doctoral studies to running their own research programs.

Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Funding
DARPA is a Department of Defense organization that sponsors high risk and cutting-edge research projects, including medical research. They do
not fund projects already in implementation. Initial funding for new projects is $500,000.

The National Trauma Institute (RFP: NTI-NCH-TRA-10)
Requests
for Proposals (RFPs) for Clinical or Translational Trauma Research
Deadline: July 23, 2010 (pre-proposals) and September 2010 (full proposals)
The National Trauma Institute is currently accepting proposals for clinical or translational research
in trauma. Single and multi-center proposals will be considered with an emphasis on prospective
studies. See the RFP for specific information regarding the priority research areas.

This fellowship reflects the sponsor's objective of advancing the art and science of surgery by:
encouraging the pursuit of original investigations both in the clinic and in the laboratory; the
development of methods of graduate teaching of surgery with particular reference to the resident
system; free and informal interchange of ideas pertaining to the aforementioned subjects.
