UTHSCSA / University Health System Pediatric Injury Prevention Team

 

Our mission — Unintentional injuries kill more children in America than all disease processes combined. When a child dies of an 'accident,' the devastation to the family, friends, and community is enormous and immeasurable. When we look back, most 'accidents' are preventable.

 

The mission of our group, composed of trauma surgeons, nurses, educators, and medical students, is to prevent these injuries from occurring — we believe that investing in the safety of our children should be the most important goal of any community.

 

Future programs will include: Burn prevention, Sports safety, Bicycle/Skate board safety, etc.

How to become a team member

 

  • Must have interest in injury prevention, working in groups, educating children/young adults, community outreach, public speaking
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Participate in pre-presentation training
  • Commitment of 4 presentations (~2 hours each) per academic year
