Anton Fries MD

Interim Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Dr. Anton Fries is Interim Division Chief and Assistant Professor for the Division of Plastic Surgery at UT Health San Antonio. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Cambridge and served for 20 years as a medical officer in the Royal Navy. He retired at the rank of Surgeon Commander, having deployed across the globe including two combat tours of Afghanistan. During his plastic surgical residency, he performed pre-clinical research at the United States Army Institute of Surgical Research in San Antonio, TX, and was awarded the International master’s degree in Reconstructive Microsurgery from Chang Gung University, Taipei. where he also completed the world-famous microsurgical fellowship. He has published over 60 peer reviewed research papers and won several research awards, in particularly relating to reconstructive tissue transplantation. His clinical interests are in all aspects of microvascular reconstruction, including lymphatic super-microsurgery, as well as general reconstructive and aesthetic surgery.

Howard T. Wang, M.D.

Dr. Howard T. Wang is the Residency Program Director, and Professor for the Division of Plastic Surgery at the UT Health San Antonio. His interest is in microvascular reconstruction of the lower extremity, head and neck and breast, cosmetic surgery, hand surgery, and general reconstruction. Dr. Wang completed his Plastic Surgery Residency at Duke University Medical Center. While at Duke, Dr. Wang spent 6 months training in Hand Surgery at Kleinert, Kutz, and Associates in Louisville, Kentucky. Prior to this, he completed a General Surgery Residency at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. His education began at Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. Following graduation, he attended Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where he received his Doctor of Medicine in 1995.

Ray C. Hosein, M.D.

Assistant Professor

Dr. Hosein is an Assistant Professor for the Division of Plastic Surgery at UT Health San Antonio. He has a keen interest in treatment of traumatic injuries, cancer of the breast as well as cancer in various other locations in the body. Dr. Hosein did his General Surgery residency at the University of Texas HSC San Antonio and his Plastic Surgery residency at the University of Utah. In addition, he completed a Microsurgery fellowship at the University of Utah where he learned to perform reconstructive free flap surgery. Dr Hosein is an avid researcher in his field of Plastic Surgery with interests in microsurgical outcomes and surgery for cancer. He believes in individualizing the treatment plan to the goals of each patient to achieve a mutually acceptable and functional outcome.

Peter T. H. Wang, M.D.

Dr. Peter Wang is a board certified plastic surgeon, having earned his medical degree from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in the city of New York, and his dental degree from Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He completed his training in plastic surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and completed his craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery fellowship at Children′s Hospital of Los Angeles. Although adept at performing a wide range of plastic surgery, Dr. Wang′s primary mission is to provide specialized care for children born with cleft lip and cleft palate, craniosynostosis, craniomaxillofacial anomalies, hemangiomas, vascular malformations, birthmarks, congenital nevus, jaw deformity, ear deformity, and microtia.

Douglas T. Cromack, M.D.

Dr. Cromack is a Clinical Assistant Professor with a joint appointment in Plastics and Orthopaedics and has been a member of the UT Health San Antonio School of Medicine faculty since 2000. He is board certified in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery with added qualification of surgery of the hand and has extensive research experience in wound healing including a 3-year fellowship at the National Cancer Institute. He has a Certificate of Added Qualification in Hand Surgery. He completed a fellowship in Hand Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Cromack earned his M.D. from the University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington, VT, in 1983, and his BS from the US Military Academy in West Point, NY.

Jaime R. Garza MD, DDS

Jaime R. Garza MD, DDS, FACS, a native San Antonian, is a past Chief and was the founding program director of our Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Residency Program. Dr. Garza is board certified in both Plastic Surgery and Otorhinolaryngology. He earned a dual doctorate with a medical degree and a doctor of dentistry from Louisiana State University. He completed his residency in otorhinolaryngology at LSU and then went on to do a fellowship in plastic, reconstructive surgery and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Garza specializes in cosmetic surgery with a specialty in Rhinoplasty and nasal surgery as well as sports-related facial injuries. His outstanding work and dedication have earned him numerous honors and peer recognition. He has been in in private practice since 2005, and is a Past-President of the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Megan Burgess, MD

Dr. Burgess is a Lt Col, USA Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Brook Army Medical Center, JBSA, Ft. Sam Houston, Texas.  Dr. Burgess did her Plastic Surgery Residency at University of Texas HSC San Antonio.  Her interest includes Plastic surgeons repair or replace skin tissue, bone, and other tissues. Plastic surgeons also do reconstructive surgery on hands and face (craniofacial).

Michael Baumholtz, M.D., FACS

Dr. Baumholtz is board certified in Plastic Surgery and holds a certificate of subspecialization in Hand Surgery. He has a private practice serving the San Antonio region with a focus in Aesthetics but covers a broad spectrum of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.

Michael E. Decherd, M.D.

Dr. Decherd is board certified in Plastic Surgery and Otolaryngology. He is a fourth-generation Texan doctor and serves the San Antonio area as a private practice Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon.

Kunj Desai, M.D.

Dr. Garcia de Mitchell is a board certified plastic surgeon, having earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. She also completed her training in General Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Craniofacial and Pediatric Plastic Surgery Fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.

Fawn Hogan, M.D., MSCI

Dr. Hogan is a Lt Col, USA Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Brook Army Medical Center, JBSA, Ft. Sam Houston, Texas.  Dr. Hogan did her Plastic Surgery Residency at University of Texas HSC San Antonio.  She has done extensive research which has resulted in numerous publications.  Her interest includes microsurgery, aesthetic and general reconstructive plastic surgery.

Donald A Hollsten, M.D., FACS

Dr. Hollsten is a board certified Ophthalmologist and a fellowship trained Oculoplastic Surgeon. For over 35 years, he has been treating patients and specializing in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He continues to display an exceptional skill set and has been consistently recognized by his peers as an expert in his field.

Robert C. Lyons, M.D.

Dr. Lyons has been associated with US Army since 1983 taking on roles that include serving as the senior clinical supervising the medical and trauma surgical care provided in a busy combat hospital deployed in Iraq with approximately 20,000 patients being seen over a ten month period. Also, he was Consultant to the Surgeon General for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. His current position is Chief for the Department of Surgery which includes Chief for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Audie Murphy Veterans Hospital.

Interests:  Pressure sore reconstruction, Mohs’ reconstruction, and general plastic surgery

Delio P. Ortegon, M.D.

Dr. Ortegon is a board certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. He completed his training in General Surgery as well as Plastic Surgery at the UT Health San Antonio. He offers a wide range of cosmetic and reconstructive surgical procedures and specializes in breast and body procedures.
